TRANSFORMATIONS OF A PARABOLA

In vertex from we could find the "compression" or "stretch" of the parabola, and the movment of the parabola "horizontally" or "vertically". A general vertex equation is below this paragraph. (The red parabola represents your starting parabola).

y=1/4(x)^2 (BLUE)
Y=x^2

The "a" in the equation would represent the vertical stretch or compress of the parabola. (If the number value of "a > 1 or a < -1", then the parbola will stretch,  if "-1 < a or a > 1", then the parabola will compress and if "a" value is negative, then the parbola must be flipped i.e. opening downwards). The "h" value represents the horizontal movement of the parabola. (if it is a negative as it shows in the picture), the parabola will move to the left but if it is positive it will move to the right. Finally, the "k" value represents the vertical axis (if it is negative, the parabola moves down but if it is positive it will move up).

y=(x)^2+4 (BLUE)
Y=x^2
y=(x+4)^2 (BLUE)
Y=x^2
